Omegle is currently in the middle of a media frenzy over an apparent rise in teen sex. What is so interesting about this particular story is that there isn’t really a significant rise to be concerned about; and teens are engaging in various forms of sexual activity for a variety of reasons.
Made it easier for teens to stay away from sex
Teens these days are having sex for a variety of reasons. But whatever the reason, it’s important to remember that this type of activity is not being encouraged. Even if you don’t believe it, there is no doubt that the ‘going green’ environment has not necessarily made it easier for teens to stay away from sex.
Let’s start with the sexual activity itself. While this may sound like it would be bad news, it’s not.
As long as parents and educators work together to keep the community and the teens aware of the dangers of this type of activity, there should be no problem. Unfortunately, the media has a tendency to sensationalize a topic.
One thing that’s also new is the use of social networking websites by teens. There are already signs that teens are using Omegle to find dates and hookups.
That said, there is no indication that this trend is going to continue to increase. And this will help parents take heart.
Seen as a sexual predator
The good news is that teens aren’t all out there looking for dates and flings; many of them are engaged in other activities. But, as adults, it’s necessary to remain aware of any danger that may exist.
A lot of the publicity regarding this topic has been pretty bad news. For example, it seems that a great number of predators have discovered this form of entertainment. As a result, they have become more active in going after victims.
Teens need to realize that this is not something that should be looked on as a way to get attention. It’s important to understand that if you are seen as a sexual predator, you’re not going to get much attention.
Type of hookup or some other type of partner
Parents should remember that a number of the websites that their teens are joining may require users to provide a social security number in order to establish a profile. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the teens are trying to find dates; and it doesn’t necessarily mean that there is a scam involved.
Teens are usually doing this because they are looking for some type of hookup or some other type of partner. These sites are often used to find work or to make friends.
If you see a teen on a website that you believe could be a potentially dangerous situation, it’s always a good idea to move forward with caution. Just be sure that you’re not harassing the teen; and if you think that there may be a scam involved, report it to the authorities.
