What To Do If Your Dog Is Aggressive Towards Other Dogs

Although every dog has the potential to be aggressive towards other dogs, it usually happens with dogs that are the same sex as each other.

It’s also much more of a problem in males than it is in females.

Your dog is most likely to be aggressive towards other dogs while your dog’s on his own territory.

There are many reasons why a dog may become aggressive with another dog, but most often the problem is sex-hormone-related.

Some dogs can also become aggressive due to lack of socialization with other dogs.

Here’s some signs of aggression you should watch out for:

Eye Contact
You should watch to see if your dog is making direct eye contact with another dog. A raised tail and intense concentration can also mean a potential fight. You should always try to intervene before this happens.

Protecting His Owner
If your dog feels you are under threat, then he will most likely use aggression to protect you.

Remember: You shouldn’t let your dog pull and strain on his leash. Your dog will eventually associate the feeling of straining on a leash with aggression.

Although you want to keep your dog on a short leash when he becomes aggressive towards other dogs, this will often make the situation worse.

If you use force to pull your dog back, you will increase his aggression.

Instead you should turn your dog’s head away so he can’t make eye contact with the other dog.
