What To Do If Your Dog Is Aggressive Towards PeopleMost dogs are happy to obey commands from their owners. However, many dog owners unknowingly lead their dog into thinking that they are the pack leader. To your dog, leaders go through doors first, are fed first, and have their demands for comfort and affection met first. So if you allow your dog to do these things, he will begin to think that he’s in control, not you. Once your dog thinks he’s the pack leader, he will use his natural instincts to keep control – and this means using aggression. |

If your dog becomes too aggressive, you must hire a professional dog trainer to help you – especially if your dog has become a danger to your safety. Here’s the solution to aggression: * Don’t let your dog take any comforts that he has been taking for granted. If he jumps on the furniture, immediately give him the “Off” command. * Use a muzzle or an adjustable head collar. This will make him feel less dominant, and obviously reduce the risk of you or your family being bitten. * Don’t show your dog any signs of affection whatsoever. Instead, to get your affection, your dog must do something for YOU. Issue him a basic obedience command such as “Sit”, and don’t give him any reward until he obeys you. * Groom your dog every day. This will show him that you’re the dominant one, not him, as I explained earlier in the grooming section. * Prepare your dog’s food, but don’t serve it to him until you have eaten YOUR meal first. * Never let your dog rush out of the door before you. You’re the leader of the pack, and leaders go first. |
