Problems Training Your Dog To Walk To Heel

There are several problems that might occur when you train your dog to walk on a leash.

In this article, we will cover the main three problems that dog owners have when teaching their dog to walk on a leash without pulling.

Let’s get started:

“Trying To Climb Up His Leash”

If your dog tries to jump up on you or climb his leash, say “No” in a firm tone of voice. After you do this, move away, command your dog to “Sit”, and go back to the start of this training exercise.

Does your dog ignore your heel command?

“He Still Pulls Forwards”
Give your dog the “Sit” command each and every time he starts trying to pull. If your dog is boisterous and you find it hard to train him this exercise, try using a head halter so you have more control over him.

“He Collapses And Refuses To Move”
Lure you dog by using his favorite toy, and remember to be patient. Don’t loose your temper and pull your dog or become angry -- that serves no purpose whatsoever. Encourage your dog with praise, and allow it to build up its confidence instead of getting angry.

Although other problems may occur when you’re training your dog to walk to heel, these three are the most common you’re likely to experience. If you have other problems, we recommend the link at the top right of this page.
