* Take his attention away from tail chasing by offering him a reward. * Give your dog the “Sit” command and reward him with a toy or food treat. * If your dog feels insecure he may demand you to pick him up. If you don’t, he may become hysterical. This usually happens with dependant dogs, especially if they are in a new environment. This behavior can become excessive if you don’t do anything about it. Something similar to this behavior is if your dog jumps in the air and tries to lick your face. Although the natural reaction by us is to reprimand the dog, this isn’t actually the best thing to do. Here’s why: A dog that does this is most likely lacking in confidence. Here’s a solution: * If your dog keeps jumping up at you, or scratches you with his paws, you should just quietly leave the room. This will surprise your dog, and cause him to calm down. * Come back in a minute later. Your dog should be calm still. Now you should command him to “Sit”. This will reassert your authority over him. Tail chasing can be a strange behavior – but it’s important to train this out of your dog before it becomes obsessive. |
