Different Types Of Reward For Your Dog

Dogs need constant encouragement when they are being trained. Food snacks, toys, physical contact and verbal praise from their owners are all very powerful rewards for your dog.

Here’s a few rewards you can offer your dog:

Hold a food treat above your dog’s nose to attract his attention. This works best when your dog is hungry.

Physical rewards are good for building a relationship with your dog, and are important during training. Best way: praise the dog by giving it long strokes along its body.

As an incentive, show your dog his favorite toy. This method also allows you to discover which toy it likes best.

Every dog has his own personal preferences for snack foods and toys. You should watch your dog’s behavior to learn what he likes best, and then only give these special treats as rewards for good behavior.

Food rewards work for most dogs, but some will always prefer toys. During training sessions, keep snacks and small toys with you.
