When Your Dog Bites Out Of Fear

Many dog owners can’t tell the difference between a dominant dog showing aggression, and a dog biting out of fear.

A dog that bites out of fear is likely to be much more hesitant than a dominant dog.

The problem of fear biting usually comes from lack of socialization. Although it can be genetic in certain breeds of dogs (German Shepard dogs have been known to inherit this genetically).

If your dog bites out of fear, you must retrain him carefully and slowly. You must be patient and not rush things.

You see: a dog that bites out of fear may give out very mixed signals. He may cower near your legs and wag his tail submissively one minute, and the next, suddenly lunge forwards in a confrontational and aggressive way like a dominant dog would.

Remember This: Dogs that bite out of fear may suffer from a low self-esteem. If you be too assertive while your retraining him (like you would with a dominant dog) you may just damage your dogs self confidence more, and make problems worse.
